Interview with an Apprentice

Kieran's Apprenticeship Story

Kieran is Inspire Design’s latest Apprentice. Having joined the team in January 2020, here he shares his thoughts about his Apprenticeship and role as a Civil Engineering Apprentice.

What Apprenticeship are you doing and when are you due to complete?

My course is the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations and my job title is Apprentice CAD Technician.

Why did you choose to do an Apprenticeship?

I felt an apprenticeship would be the best way to learn as I can get on the job experience while studying the industry I am working in, I learn a lot more from participating in the job than I do from reading.

How has your Apprenticeship benefited you?

Other than giving me some financial freedom while learning, I have been able to adapt my skills and knowledge around the job I do and get a better understanding of the processes our work runs by.

What are your plans for when your Apprenticeship is complete?

I am planning to go into further education and expand on what I have already learnt through more advanced courses and work.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting an Apprenticeship?

I recommend an apprenticeship over other forms of learning as you get on the job experience which looks great on your CV when looking to start your working career.
